Value proposition

Replaces task-specific robotic programming with a generalized AI 'brain' (WALL-A) that allows robots to handle complex, random, and fine-grained manipulation tasks with high adaptability and minimal human intervention.

Products and solutions

WALL-A Foundation Model (Great Wall Series), Unified Embodied Intelligence Operating System, Xiao Tai (小泰) - Specialized service robot for elderly care (co-developed), General-purpose robot control modules

Unique value

Pioneered the 'Unified Embodied Intelligence' architecture in China, which integrates high-level reasoning (large brain) and low-level physical control (small brain) into a single end-to-end multi-modal foundation model.

Target customer

Industrial manufacturers, logistics providers, healthcare facilities (elderly care), and service-oriented enterprises looking for highly adaptable robotic automation.

Industries served

Elderly Care & Healthcare, Advanced Manufacturing, Logistics & Warehousing, Retail & Hospitality Services

Technology advantage

Maintains a massive parameter-scale model (WALL-A) that outperforms traditional modular robotics in generalization, allowing robots to manipulate objects of arbitrary shapes and positions without pre-defined scripts.

How they differentiate

Pioneered the 'Unified Embodied Intelligence' architecture with the WALL-A foundation model, which integrates high-level reasoning and low-level physical control into a single end-to-end multi-modal system. Unlike competitors using modular setups, X Square focuses on a 'universal brain' that enables zero-shot generalization across diverse objects and tasks.

Main competitors

Agibot (智元机器人), Galbot (银河通用), Unitree Robotics (宇树科技), LimX Dynamics (逐际动力)

Key partnerships

ByteDance (Strategic lead investor and AI technology partner), Alibaba Cloud (Infrastructure and investment partner), Meituan (Pilot deployment and investment partner for service robotics), Taikang Insurance Group (Strategic partner for healthcare and elderly care robot deployment), Unitree Robotics (Hardware integration and embodiment partner)

Notable customers

Taikang Insurance Group (Healthcare/Elderly Care pilot), Meituan (Service robotics pilot), Unitree Robotics (Hardware integration partner)

Major milestones

Founded in December 2023 by Wang Qian (former quant fund manager and CMU robotics researcher)., Released the WALL-A (Great Wall) unified foundation model for embodied intelligence., Secured strategic investments from Meituan (2024), Alibaba (2025), and ByteDance (2026)., First startup to receive investment from the SCGC AI Fund (2026).

Growth metrics

Raised over 2 billion RMB (~$285M) within 25 months of founding; executed 8 distinct funding events since late 2023.

Market positioning

Tier-1 leader in the Chinese Embodied AI (具身智能) sector, uniquely positioned as the only startup backed by all three major Chinese internet giants: ByteDance, Alibaba, and Meituan.

Geographic focus

Headquartered in Shenzhen, China; targeting global leadership in general-purpose robotic manipulation models.

Patents and IP

Holds proprietary IP for the WALL-A end-to-end model architecture and multi-modal training pipelines (specific registration numbers not publicly disclosed as of latest funding).

About Wang Qian

Wang Qian (also known as Bill Qian) is a prominent technologist and entrepreneur with a background in both high-level robotics research and quantitative finance. He graduated with a Bachelor's and Master's degree from Tsinghua University and conducted doctoral research at a world-leading robotics laboratory (notably at Carnegie Mellon University), focusing on attention mechanisms in neural networks. Before founding X Square, he established and managed a quantitative hedge fund in the United States. In late 2023, he closed the fund to return to China and lead the next wave of 'Embodied AI' through X Square.
