Value proposition

To dramatically reduce the cost and complexity of software downtime by automating the most time-consuming part of site reliability engineering: root cause analysis. Traversal enables engineering teams to resolve incidents faster, prevent future issues, and focus on innovation rather than firefighting.

Products and solutions

The Traversal Platform: An AI agent that integrates with existing observability data (logs, metrics, traces)., Automated Root Cause Analysis Engine., Natural Language Incident Explanation and Reporting., On-premise and secure cloud deployment options.

Unique value

Traversal's core innovation is its 'AI SRE'—an agent that autonomously investigates production incidents. It moves beyond simple data visualization to provide clear, natural language explanations of a problem's root cause, dramatically reducing troubleshooting time and the need for manual analysis of logs, metrics, and traces.

Target customer

Enterprises with complex software systems and high reliability requirements, including cloud providers, large-scale SaaS companies, fintech firms, and payment processors.

Industries served

Cloud Infrastructure, SaaS, FinTech & Payments, E-commerce, Financial Services

Technology advantage

Built on the founders' academic research in causal inference and reinforcement learning. The platform is designed as an agentic system that can reason about software failures, not just correlate data. It offers on-premise deployment options to meet strict enterprise security and compliance requirements.

How they differentiate

Unlike traditional observability platforms (like Datadog) that provide dashboards and require manual investigation, Traversal uses an AI agent to autonomously perform root cause analysis and identify solutions. Unlike generalist AI agents, it is purpose-built for the high-stakes, complex domain of site reliability engineering.

Main competitors

Datadog, Splunk, Dynatrace, New Relic

Key partnerships

Sequoia Capital, Kleiner Perkins, Strong ties to the Cornell Tech, MIT, and Columbia University research communities., Pilot programs and deployments with early enterprise customers.

Notable customers

Digital Ocean, Eventbrite, Cloudways, Fortune 100 financial institutions, American Express

Major milestones

Founded in 2023. Secured a combined $48 million in Seed and Series A funding. Launched from stealth in June 2024. Deployed product with major enterprise customers like Digital Ocean and Eventbrite.

Growth metrics

Publicly launched from stealth in June 2024. Actively deployed in production environments at several major tech companies. Accuracy is claimed to be >90% on high-impact incidents.

Market positioning

A specialized AI-powered observability platform designed to act as an AI Site Reliability Engineer (SRE), augmenting or replacing traditional monitoring tools by providing automated root cause analysis.

Geographic focus

Primarily North America, with enterprise customers globally.

Patents and IP

No public patents. Intellectual property is centered on their proprietary AI agent architecture and causal inference models for software reliability.

About Anish Agarwal

Anish Agarwal is the Co-founder and CEO of Traversal. He is also an Assistant Professor at Columbia University in the Department of Industrial Engineering and Operations Research. His background is deeply rooted in AI research, particularly in causal inference and machine learning, with a Ph.D. from MIT. Before founding Traversal, he was a Postdoctoral Researcher at MIT. His work focuses on applying AI to solve complex enterprise problems, leading to the creation of Traversal's AI-powered observability platform.
